As the sun rises above our new school buildings, this is when the Kindergarten emerge onto the 'big' playground. Releasing the children out into a well resourced and interesting new area of the school, who knows what equipment awaits them. Today has been the day of the foam javelins, as the children line up side by side, the supervising adults are quick to remind everyone of the importance of safety. Although the situation is incredibly exciting, the children wait patiently for the next instruction and show great restraint in observing our playground etiquette. After modelling the correct way to hold a javelin, poised and ready, we propel them as high and as far as possible in synchronicity. After retrieving their own javelin the children stand and wait again for their second attempt. This is just one of many great outdoor inputs the children experience throughout the day, improving their gross motor skills, listening abilities, as well an understanding for the need for safety.
