Reception Room on the Broom

November 23, 2018

Over the past 4 weeks the children have been exploring the story Room on the Broom. The children have enjoyed  dressing in character to ask and answer questions (hot seating!)

We have been very busy, Some of our activities have included:

  •  learning to identify rhyming words

  • creating our own witch characters

  • using shapes to draw witches

  • making potions and exploring changing colours

  • making our own books

  • developing our fine motor skills using  tweezers to pick up a range of creepy small objects

  • building witches castles with the large blocks outdoors

  • creating a skyline using blocks indoors

Each of the classes also generated some of their own lines of investigation. Willow class explored real life dragons, a class favourite was the Komodo Dragon. Sycamore class thought that the witch might be flying to the moon at the end of the story, and wanted to investigate space. Elm class wanted to learn more about castles, they built moats, and explored our Royal Family particularly the Queen.
