As part of our much anticipated Science Week, the children were paid a visit from a mad scientist. His hair was purple, his coat long and white, with the many experiments on show, he gave the children quite fright. Moving away from a Gruffalo type verse, it was something that the whole school thoroughly enjoyed as it caught the imagination and scientific flair that many of the students and adults love to see. Learning how to make rocket fuel by combining flammable liquids that result in chemical reactions is maybe something we shouldn't try at home but was done in a very controlled and rehearsed environment. Another experiment involved looking at force and how to make things move by making rockets out balloons, attaching them to a string then letting them go exhibiting propulsion. The crowd favourite had to be when we investigated gravity and the pull of planets by using an oversized hairdryer to suspend the planets just high enough to simulate them in in orbit.
